Lab Update

So yahhhhh...went to the lab! Ouch! Really, it wasn't too bad besides being starving and tired. Fasting for 12 hours and leaving the casa at 5:30 a.m. REALLY isn't my cup o' tea. lol.

The test was like 3.5 hours. Crazy! After my first blood draw, I had to drink some sugary orange drink think within five minutes. The blood/needle supervisor guy mentioned there were recliners in the waiting room so I could take a nap before my next blood draw in an hour. I thought he was totally kidding but JACKPOT, BABY, he wasn't!!! They were parked in front of the t.v. that was showing The Today Show. So me, my book and my blackberry hung out and napped, read and checked out the news from the recliner. They called me every hour for the next three hours to give a vial of blood. Vials?!?! What happened to the finger prick? Srsly, ppl. Don't I need that blood for something?

I might have mentioned before that I effin' hate shots and needles. For reals. SO WHYYYY do I always get stuck (no pun intended) with the new needle girl??? *Waaaah* Granted, everyone needs to learn and she was really nice. And I'm sure she was overly nervous b/c the supervisor was sitting directly outside of the room staring at us. On the second draw, she stabbed my arm and couldn't find a vein so was WIGGLING THE DAMN NEEDLE AROUND IN MY ARM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Again, I HATE needles so I was about to throw up but I couldn't BECAUSE I didn't want to drink the orange drink and wait an hour AGAIN! So she called the supervisor guy who held down the needle, did a quick movement and apparently stabbed the vein before I surely would have fallen unconcious.

The next two hourly sticks were uneventful and she did do a good job. No more in-arm needle wrestling. Ugh!

So they will call me within two days with results. I will post the scoopage. While having gestational diabetes does sound like a huge pain in the finger (apparently, you have to prick yourself 4 times per day?), it would be kinda nice to be under a strict diet. :) Hopefully, my test comes back negative though and there won't be any more needles in my immediate future :)

Love,
Us
